It is no longer the state who censors us. The time has gone when one knew who to blame for a 20 minute shorter film. You do not get informed that something is removed, it is just gone.

Today it is more blurred who actually is censoring, but likely to be one or more of the following: a corporation, private institution, your friend or family member.

It seems that the consensus is to remove anything offensive, which sounds well and good, but I can easily imagine a future where this is highly dangerous. If you can not then I’m afraid we are already in that future.

After only 3 hours the above image which I posted to Instagram and facebook was suddenly just gone, I was not notified. I can be relatively certain* that one of my friends or family reported the picture. I hope said person also unfriended me.

What is interesting is that I self censored the image as I cropped away the genitals.

* Facebook privacy was set to friends only and the Instagram post had no hashtags or location info.
