St-Pierre’s Un Peu de Tendresse

I saw my first contemporary dance performance and it was a blast. There was extreme amounts of male and female nudity up close and personal for everyone to enjoy. Some even got bum cracks and balls In their face.

Nudity aside, it was beautiful and provoking dance performance about intimacy between fellow humans.

The dancers took on the role of the licensed fool and tried very hard to push us out of the box and take on their perspective. For me they were successful but a few people resisted and left in protest. I let the show take me on the journey it offered and found my self in the eye of the storm, a overflow of useless information and entertainment swirling around me, whilst I stood apart with the dancers enjoying the silence.

Shook tactics is certainly not anything new. Apparently in Finish dance from the 70s human feces was throne at the audience. I guess the critic Luke Jennings can be happy he didd not go to that performance, as he was severely disturbed by being spat at.

Now I want to experience a show or work of art that can take you out of the box without relying on shock.
