I came across this letter from Steve Jobs to Bob whilst surfing across the internet. The blogger who posted it presumed that it was addressed to Bob Mansfield, the senior Vice president of hardware. The blogger does not disclose how he came across the letter. To me it seems a bit obscure that Steve would resort to a physical letter. Maybe Apple think they are under surveillance and have to resort to pen and paper? If the letter is true or not does not matter, because what it got me thinking about was that Apple might have made shore that 1984 was not like “1984” though instead they are doing it to day, but disguised with a smile. Don’t get me wrong I like Apple products, I’m as much a sucker to their advertising as anyone. However one should always take a step back.
What would it mean to the world if Apple created a iWallet? A app / device for the iPhone that holds digital versions of your debit cards, credit cards, library card, travel card etc, so that when you wanted to by a Ferrari our take out a book from the library all you needed to do is link it to a terminal and press pay / borrow book. For one it would mean that our hole life could be tracked from one single device the iPhone.
Already one can imagine that everything we do on the iPhone could be accessed by a third party. The iWallet would just be the final step to monitor our every action as a humane being and a consumer.
Are we nothing more than walking consumers?
Is the true purpose of the iPhone to monitor our consumption?
What do you think?
